Privacy & Security - State of Ohio's Kids Safe Online Poster Contest

State of Ohio Finalists!

The below posters were selected from a pool of over 1,000 entries from 47 different schools around the State. The posters were judged on creativity, originality, and concept in illustrating the safe and secure use of the Internet by young people.

The top nine posters have been entered to represent Ohio in the national contest administered by the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC). The winning entries of the national contest will have their artwork included in a 2013 MS-ISAC Cyber Security Calendar.  Congratulations to our Ohio finalists!

What is it?

Students in grades kindergarten through 12 were invited to participate in the State of Ohio Kids Safe Online poster contest. The contest, sponosred by the Office of Information Security & Privacy of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, is part of a national contest held in collaboration with the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center to promote safe and secure Internet usage among young people.

Spreading the message about safe online behavior has never been more important. The majority of our youth are online, and the risk for cyber-bullying, identifying theft and other serious incidents among children is increasing.

How To Get Started: Poster art should illustrate the safe use of Internet and/or mobile devices. Create original artwork that demonstrates the following concepts:

  • Interacting with others and not bullying or threatening others on the Internet
  • Not giving out personal information on the Internet
  • Only visiting safe websites
  • Being careful with email (not sending worms and viruses)
  • Being careful not to download malicious code from games or websites
  • How online gaming and gambling can be dangerous
  • Protecting against identity theft
  • Safe use of social networking such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc.
  • Any original concept that illustrates safe use of the Internet or mobile devices

  • Inappropriate Texting

Technical Specifications:

Format : Original hand drawn or electronically created submissions will be accepted. Text should be dark and large enough to read.

Layout & Dimensions: 8.5" x 11" in landscape format.

Content: Teachers, support staff and parents may offer minimum technical support but canot aid in the creative process. No professional (paid) assistance is allowed.

DO NOT send any artwork that contains trademark images or brands such as Disney Characters, Dell, Google, Twitter, etc. For additional informaiton on copyright visit: http://www.copyrightkids.org/

DO NOT put any idenitfying information on the front of the poster.

Who can participate?

The contest was open to all State of Ohio public, private or homeschooled students in kindergarten - 12th grades. The posters were judged on creativity, originality, poster concept and adherence to technical specifications.

Contest Winners!

The top three Ohio finalists  from each grade group (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) have been selected, and submitted into The Multi-State Cyber Security Awareness Calendar Contest.  The winning posters from the Multi-State Cyber Security Awareness Calendar Contest will be displayed in the 2013 National Cyber Security Calendar, the MS-ISAC website and may also be used in campaigns to raise awareness among children of all ages about Internet and computer safety.  All submissions will receive a Certificate of Participation.
